I’m a writer and editor in the Boston area. Most of my work is in areas of politics, history, law, science, and the arts. I’ve been published by the Washington Post, New Republic, Boston Globe, Christian Science Monitor, American Prospect, Democracy Journal, Al Jazeera America, Los Angeles Review of Books, The Washington Spectator, and others. Please see the menu above for links to my stories and media appearances. I was previously managing editor of Boston Review, a political and literary magazine.

I do developmental and copy editing of books and other writing on a freelance basis. Mostly I work with authors of serious nonfiction published by academic and trade presses, scholarly journals, and magazines. I have also done a wide range of editorial copywriting. See the Editorial Services link at the top for more information and a list of titles.

Get in touch by email: swaxman [at] gmail.com. I tweet reluctantly.
